What we collect
Quartwise has no accounts and no sign-in, and does not ask for your name, email, phone number or location. It contains no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting software. We do not run our own database of users. The vehicles, mileage, service history and reminders you enter are stored only on your device (and in your own iCloud/device backup, if you enable it).
On your device:
- Your vehicles, mileage, service log and settings are saved in the app's local storage. Vehicle lookups are also cached there.
- If the app hits an error, it saves a short local error report. Nothing is sent anywhere automatically. You can view and clear it in More.
- Reminders are scheduled as local notifications on your phone, and only if you allow notifications. No push server is involved.
- A PDF service history or JSON backup is created only when you tap export. It is handed to the iOS share sheet, and you choose where it goes.
- All of this stays until you delete it. Use More › Delete all data on this device, or delete the app.
Vehicle lookups (sent over the internet, not linked to you): to show specs, engines, the factory maintenance schedule and filter part numbers, the app sends vehicle details only: your VIN if you enter one, otherwise year, make and model, plus engine details (displacement, cylinders, engine code) and the internal ID of the engine you picked. The app does not send your mileage, service history, name, or any account or device identifier. As with any internet request, the receiving servers see your IP address. Not a mechanic: information in Quartwise is general guidance. Always follow your vehicle owner's manual and a qualified mechanic.
Who we share it with
We do not share your personal information with anyone. Only these services receive vehicle details (never personal information): NHTSA vPIC, Cloudflare (which hosts our vehicle-data server), and Vehicle Finder.
- NHTSA vPIC (U.S. Department of Transportation): the app contacts this free government vehicle database directly to decode a VIN and to list makes and models by year.
- Our vehicle-data server (a Cloudflare Worker run by Freshpath Studio, hosted by Cloudflare): forwards lookups to Vehicle Finder. To keep repeat lookups fast, it caches results for up to 30 days, keyed by the vehicle details in the request (for example, the VIN or the year, make and model). It does not store your IP address or any device identifier with the cache. Your IP address is used briefly for rate limiting to prevent abuse. Our server does not keep request logs. Cloudflare, which hosts it, may briefly process limited request data, such as IP addresses, for security and network operations under its own privacy policy.
- Vehicle Finder (vehicle-data provider): receives the vehicle details from our server, never directly from your phone, so it does not see your IP address. It receives no personal information. Our server caches its results for up to 30 days, keyed only by vehicle details, and those results contain no personal information.
- Apple: if you install Quartwise through TestFlight or the App Store, Apple may collect crash reports and diagnostics under its own privacy policy, if you have chosen to share them with developers in iOS Settings. We see these only as anonymous reports in Apple's tools.
We do not sell or "share" personal information (as defined by California law) and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
Children
Quartwise is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
You can review, correct, or delete information as described above, or by emailing us. California residents may request access or deletion; we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Do Not Track
Because we do not track you across third-party sites or apps, we do not respond differently to browser Do-Not-Track signals.
Changes
We will post changes here and update the effective date. Material changes will be notified in the app.
